With these details registered, you can reset your password instantly via email instead of waiting weeks for a reset code to arrive by mail—which is sent to your legal address and may even be out of date. This simple update keeps your account access secure and convenient, ensuring you’re never left waiting to get back in. Here’s how to quickly add your email and phone number to the Portuguese tax authority’s website.
Step 1. Go to the Finance Portal website to log in: https://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/at/html/index.html
Step 2. Click NIF and input your username and your password. Note: Your username is your NIF.
Step 3. On the left side, you will find dropdowns under MENU. Click the first one, A Minha Área, which translates to “My Area”. If the options below it are still not shown, please click it. If the options are already shown just like below, click “Dados Pessoais”, which translates to “Personal Data”.

Step 4. You will be given two options. Choose “Dados De Contacto”, which means “Contact Details”.
Step 5. Click “Alterar Dados” or “Change Data” to add your information.
Step 6. Add your e-mail address and your phone number. Then, click Continue. Note: Phone number should be a Portuguese phone number.
Step 7. Review the information entered and click “Confirmar” or “Confirm”.

Step 8. You will see under “Estado” or “State” that the authentication is in progress. You will receive an e-mail and a text message with codes to respectively enter. You will be inputting these under “Opçōes” or “Options”, then, “Insert Code” which is the first option under the dropdown menu.
Step 9. When you type in the codes, click confirm for each. As you do, your e-mail address and your phone number will be authenticated. Save it and finish. And, you’re all done!
